About Shalom Bible Seminary

Shalom Bible Seminary is owned and sponsored by the Angami Baptist Church Council (ABCC). The ABCC is one of the twenty-one constituent members of the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC). With its headquarter in Kohima, it is the second station of the American Baptist Foreign Missionary Society (ABFMS) in Nagaland with about 44,000 baptized members from 111 churches under the ABCC.

Location

  1. Shalom Bible Seminary was launched on October 8, 1996. The seminary initially operated from the ABCC Mission Centre at Kohima till 2004 end. In January 2005, it was relocated to its permanent campus at Sechü-Zubza, about 17 km West of Kohima, the capital city of Nagaland. The seminary is located on a beautiful hill with salubrious climatic conditions throughout the year. It is surrounded by three villages Sechüma, Kiruphema, Peducha, as well as Sechü-Zubza Town, which provide ample opportunities for ministry.
  2. Kohima is easily accessible. There are over a hundred churches in and around Kohima town, with as many colleges, schools, hospitals and infirmaries which the seminary can influence. Therefore, the location is, in many ways, ideal for a seminary.

The Need for a Library: The Shalom Resource and Research Center

The library is the heart of any institution. It is in the library that commitment, passion and knowledge are deepened and refined as students, teachers and researchers dig and plod through the wealth of knowledge and experience captured and preserved in books and other resources. All these twenty odd years, Shalom has not had a proper library building; this need is being felt more and more as we grow and expand.

Having shifted to the present site in 2005, with many other developmental projects needing more attention, the library books were simply accommodated in a temporary location. Up till now, one room housed the reference and reading room in the upper floor of the administrative building; another room housed the main book holdings in the ground floor. Supervising library activities on two floors has proved a challenge for the library staff. For lack of space, the journals and magazines have not been displayed appropriately. Hence, a new library facility is imperative.

Anticipated Benefits of the Proposed Library.

In a short time, Shalom has grown and students now total 240 plus, coming from all over North East India, also from mainland India, and overseas. Shalom now has one of the best stocked theological libraries in the North East, with nearly 27,000 volumes. It has potential to be a great resource center to impact people from even outside the theological community.

However, because of the present congestion, the daily circulation of library books has been hampered. Once a new library is built, easier access of books will be facilitated. Moreover, more students can be accommodated inside the library to maximize the reading hours. Shalom needs to have a bigger library, and soon!

We are on the verge of completing two floors in this ongoing construction project. God willing, we want to shift all the library operations to this present site by the time the new academic session starts in July, 2025. Do pray with us!

Shalom’s story has always been one where God honored our prayers, and moved the hearts and hands of sincere and generous people who gave to the cause of building God’s kingdom on earth.

We believe in a faithful and powerful God who is at work in this world and in this age. Do join hands with us in this big kingdom work in any manner God leads you to.
